Cosplay enthusiasts across the country have a reason to rejoice! NODWIN Gaming’s Cosplay Genie recently unveiled on Instagram that the Dreamhack digital festival will pave the way for the first round of Indian qualifiers for the globally renowned World Cosplay Summit (WCS) this November.

Scheduled to unfold at the Hitex Exhibition Center in Hyderabad from November 4th to 6th, the Dreamhack 2023 festival promises a multifaceted celebration of the digital world. Alongside the cosplay qualifiers, attendees can revel in gaming tournaments, including a unique bring-your-own-device competitive segment, tabletop and retro gaming challenges, and enriching sessions with leading esports influencers.
Notably, the final showdown for the World Cosplay Summit India Qualifier 2023 took the capital by storm earlier this year on June 24th. Cosplay aficionados converged at the Shri Ram Auditorium, Todermal Road Area, New Delhi, showcasing their creativity and craftsmanship.
Throwing light on past laurels, Team Agni Hana, consisting of Rohit Kailasya and Vanna Calista, carved a niche for themselves by clinching the Prop Making award in 2022. Their vibrant depiction of characters from the popular Monster Hunter game franchise did not just win them accolades, but also the honor of representing India at the World Cosplay Summit.
In the preceding year, Team India, featuring KitsuneBlood Cosplays as Kagura and Hotaru Juno as Matako Kijima from the Gintama anime series, bagged the Environmental Consideration in Costume Making award at the WCS Finals held in August 2021.
2021’s WCS was notably diverse, blending in-person and virtual elements. Anchored around Oasis 21 in Nagoya, the event witnessed exhilarating cosplay events, riveting photoshoots, stage events, and even a video cosplay championship. Supported by an impressive executive committee roster, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Nagoya City, the event stood testament to the enduring spirit of the cosplay community.
Reflecting on the challenges of the pandemic, it’s essential to note that 2020’s WCS had to sidestep its Championship and International Representative events. In its stead, the organizers curated a unique “Cosplay Summit Online Presentation”, ensuring the global community remained connected during trying times.
Registrations for the upcoming qualifiers are now open, and participants across India are gearing up to showcase their talent on this illustrious platform.
